Founded in 1961 in response to the growing toll of cardiovascular disease, the British Heart Foundation set out to fund the research that could change the odds for the millions of families affected.
Its vision is a world where everyone has a healthier heart for longer, where fewer hearts stop without warning and more of us can live well with the people we love.
The BHF funds pioneering cardiovascular research, provides expert health information and support through services like its Heart Helpline, and helps people affected by heart and circulatory conditions access the care and guidance they need.
But its work goes beyond funding research.
The BHF also campaigns for the policies that save lives, from improving access to defibrillators to reducing the health inequalities that mean some people are far more likely to die from heart disease than others.
Its impact is already extraordinary: BHF-funded research has helped develop pacemakers, statins and portable defibrillators that are now used to save lives every day.
Yet every three minutes, someone in the UK still loses their life to cardiovascular disease. Ending that toll means moving beyond treatment alone and asking a more important question:
What would it take to stop a family losing someone they love to a condition we already know how to prevent?
At 30 for 30, we are proud to celebrate a charity that has spent more than six decades funding the answers to that question.
Today, we celebrate the British Heart Foundation, and everyone working towards a world free from the fear of heart and circulatory disease.
